is a licensed psychologist and former special education teacher with 25 years combined experience in education. She works primarily as an Associate Professor in the Department of Theory and Practice in Teacher Education at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Bell specializes in the assessment of reading, learning disabilities, dyslexia, intellectual giftedness, and school readiness. She is co-author of The Handbook of Reading Assessment by Bell, McCandrew and McCallum and other numerous scholarly articles and conference presentations. Sherry Bell
graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with her M.A. in Communication Disorders & Sciences. She earned her B.A. degrees in Speech-Language-Voice Pathology and Audiology and Vocal Performance, emphasis Opera Literature & Performance, also from UTK. Mrs. Burkhalter’s areas of specialty include early intervention, developmental apraxia of speech, disorders of swallowing & voice, Melodic Intonation Therapy, neurorehabilitation and neuro-habilitation. She holds her Tennessee license in Speech-Language Pathology as well as her Professional Teacher’s License with Special Education Endorsements. Kristina Burkhalter
received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Dr. Cannon is an Adjunct Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Psychology and Director of the Clinical Neuroscience laboratory at UT. He is also Director of of the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at Cole Neuroscience Center, Memory Disorder Clinic. He completed his Ph.D. in experimental psychology with an emphasis in neuroscience methods, neurophysiology and biological psychology. Dr. Cannon has contributed to several books and has published numerous neuroscience papers in peer-reviewed journals, including the first work demonstrating that human beings can learn to change the electrical activity in specific regions within the cortex using spatial specific neuro-operant learning. He received several awards during his graduate training including the Cureton Award for outstanding scholarship in the areas of psychometrics and neuropsychology. Dr. Cannon has presented research at Columbia University and Harvard Medical School. He developed several protocols and assessment tools spatial-specific to neurofeedback training and is board certified in neurofeedback by the renowned BCIA. Rex Cannon
is a licensed psychologist with Health Service Provider status in the state of Tennessee. Dr. Carroll has extensive experience in the schools working with students, faculty and parents on a variety of cognitive, academic, behavioral, social, and emotional issues associated with learning disabilities, attentiondeficit, intellectual giftedness, mental retardation, and autism spectrum disorders. Dr. Carroll specializes in assessment, diagnosis, and consultation services related to attention deficit, processing disorders, learning disabilities, and dyslexia in school-aged children as well as adults. Stephanie Spencer Carroll
graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with her M.A. in Communication Disorders & Sciences and earned her B.A. in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology also from UTK. Ms. Cole provides dynamic therapy sessions by blending her expertise of communication sciences with cognitive training, body movement, and sensory-integration. Ms. Cole is a PDD/Autistic Spectrum specialist with over ten years of experience with PECS and trained with Vanderbilt’s TRIAD program with the Temple Gandin School’s sensory integration curriculum. She has extensive experience with the Beckman Oral Motor protocol, CAPD, Fast Forward, Earobics, and the LindaMood experience. Ms. Cole completed the Project TEEACH training through the University of North Carolina and routinely weaves elements of Brain Gym and Tribes into her therapy sessions. Ms. Cole is a Brown Belt IA (NeuroIntergrative Approach) Instructor and a Cultural Diversity trainer. Jeremy is a Ph.D. student in School Psychology at the University of Tennessee. He is originally from Ohio and received his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ohio State University in 2008 and his Master of Education in School Psychology from Bowling Green State University in 2010. Jeremy tutors and provides reading therapy for students of all ages by identifying and targeting each individual’s specific strengths and weaknesses from the most basic foundational skills to more advanced higher-order skills. Laura Crisp earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and Research at the University of Tennessee. Crisp has six years of experience working with K-12 and college students with a variety of learning disabilities and psychological disorders. She is especially attuned to helping children lift emotional barriers to learning. Crisp successfully works with students with a variety of learning needs who require support in acquiring essential tools for learning. Linda Dreke, Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist with Health Service Provider Status in Tennessee. She completed her B.A. in Psychology at Princeton University and her Ph.D. in School Psychology at Texas A&M University. Dr. Dreke spent several years working in school systems providing group and individual therapy to children and adolescents, family therapy, parent training groups, social skills groups, parent and teacher consultation services, and psychoeducational evaluations and interventions in areas such as autism, AD/HD, learning disabilities, emotional/behavioral concerns, and mental retardation. She has received her National Certification in School Psychology and Tennessee State Board of Education Certification as a School Psychologist. Linda Dreke
earned his B.A. in psychology with a minor in biology from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in 1975. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 1977 with an M.A. in Clinical Psychology and minor in Biology. Dr. Effler subsequently worked with the Bristol Regional Mental Health Center's Children and Youth department for two years before relocating to his hometown of Maryville, Tennessee in 1979 to accept a position as school psychologist for Blount County Schools. He earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology with an area of emphasis in neurological psychology from the University of Tennessee in 1996. Dr. Effler is a licensed school psychologist and senior licensed psychological examiner, health service provider. He has over 30 years experience in psychoeducational assessment and participation in the development and implementation of educational and outpatient treatment programs for children and youth. Dr. Effler has also served as a part-time instructor at Lincoln Memorial University graduate school for over 7 years. His professional interests include brain-mapping and neurofeedback as well as cognitively oriented and client centered psychotherapy. He studied neurofeedback under Dr. Joel Lubar, a pioneer in that treatment modality for patients with ADD and ADHD. Instructional Technologist/Tutor In education, instructional technology is "the theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning," according to the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT). Dr. Hossbach has over 36 years combined experience in education, and training and development. He has served as a secondary school science teacher (Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Health, and Ecology), and an adjunct professor teaching various business courses (Principles of Management, Human Relations, Principles of Industrial Management, Introduction to Purchasing/Materials Management, and First-Line Supervision).

Dr. Hossbach earned his doctorate (Ed.D.) in Instructional Technology and his master's (M.S.Ed.) in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. He also holds a bachelor's (B.A.) in Biology with a minor in Education from Lewis University, and an associate's (A.A.) from Joliet Junior College, the nation's oldest community college. He currently serves as a Supplemental Instructor/Tutor at Roane State Community College, and is responsible for tutoring college students in the areas of science (Human Anatomy/Physiology and Biology), Math, and Writing and Composition. In his last two years with Roane State, Dr. Hossbach has also developed and presented seminars entitled "Test-Taking Strategies and Test Anxiety" and "Study Skills" to Roane State students, area high school students, and GED candidates.

Garry Johnson, M.S. received his Master of Science degree in Physics from Wright State University (WSU) in Dayton, Ohio after receiving his B.S. in Physics from WSU. His teaching career began as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) teaching courses in introductory Physics and Astronomy. His teaching experience continued through his 25+ year computer career - teaching both academic and commercial computer science courses. In the last few years, Mr. Johnson taught Physics at both the high school and college level. He has also tutored math from the 7th grade level through high school and up into college in both college algebra and calculus. Mr. Johnson has additional specialty areas in graduate level physics and and computer programming. He is also a student of Hebrew language. Garry Johnson
Ajeet Khalsa is author of The Dancing Spider: Enjoying Yoga with Your Kids and has been working with children and adults as a dancer/educator and yoga specialist for nearly 30 years. She draws upon a varied background of professional theatre, children's entertainment, and four years as an undergraduate in New York with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and a Masters in Performance Education. She is a certified Kundalini Yoga instructor (1996) and assists our clients who struggle with stress, anxiety, Autism, and ADD/ADHD. Ajeet's group and individual sessions promote sustained attention, relaxation, balance, body control, flexibility, and social skills. She offers home or studio sessions. Ajeet Khalsa
graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, with her M.A. in Communication Disorders and Sciences. From East Tennessee State University she earned her B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology. Ms. Lewis retired from the Oak Ridge City School System in 2005 where she was a Team Leader for fellow speech-language pathologists and frequently conducted workshops on PDD/Autistic Spectrum and CAPD issues within the schools. She holds her Tennessee license in Speech-Language Pathology and her Professional Teacher’ License with Special Education Endorsements. Marti Lewis
earned his M.S.N. from the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2003. He has additional expertise in social gerontology, human sexuality, substance abuse, and the medical aspects of rehabilitation. Al Mathewson earned his M.S.W. from the University of South Carolina in Individual, Couple, and Family Systems in 1991. He earned his undergraduate B.A. in 1983 from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, TN. Mr. Mathewson brings decades of clinical expertise to our group and specializes in psychiatric medication management for late teens and adults. Al Mathewson
is a nationally recognized expert in assessment. Dr. McCallum has authored/co-authored two books on assessment of non-verbal cognitive abilities, developed a measure of nonverbal cognitive ability (the UNIT) published by Riverside Publishing, and numerous journal articles and conference presentations focusing on assessment. He is the founding co-editor of the Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment; most recently he co-authored The Handbook of Reading Assessment. He is a professor and head of Education Psychology & Counseling at the University of Tennessee. Dr. McCallum has been recognized as a fellow by the American Psychological Association and is a licensed psychologist. Steve McCallum
is a nationally certified School Psychologist. He has over 10 years experience working directly with children and teens, and consulting with parents, teachers and administrators on a variety of academic, social and behavioral issues, including ADHD, Learning Disabilities and Intellectual Disabilities. Aside from his graduate training in assessment and counseling, Mr. Mitchell has also completed training in the Lindamood-Bell reading programs and provides reading therapy utilizing this approach. He seeks to continuously integrate these skills of assessment, teaching and counseling. In so doing, he has found success working with clients both locally and abroad, within a variety of systems, including school systems, universities, residential settings as well as in private practice in his country of birth, Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, Mr. Mitchell has conducted a number of personal development workshops with teenagers focusing on issues of time management, career planning and social skills training. Lyndon Mitchell
Lisa graduated from the University of Tennessee in 2010 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology with minors in Chemistry and Secondary Education. She enjoys tutoring biology and chemistry to high school and college level students. Lisa is actively involved in experimental psychology research, recently co-authoring 2 publications involving the use of neurofeedback. Elizabeth Price, M.A is a credentialed special education teacher and Ph.D. candidate in Educational Psychology. Previous to her studies at The University of Tennessee, she worked as a special educator of pre-K to adult learners with special needs in private and public school settings for ten years. Elizabeth is a teacher trainer and therapist in mediated learning practices that focus on cognitive, social, and emotional skills. In working with learners of all ages and abilities, Elizabeth draws upon her background teaching cognitive skills as well as programs such as LindaMood-Bell, Earobics, Reading Recovery, The Listening Program, Brain Gym, Superflex, Instrumental Enrichment, and Cognitive Enrichment Advantage. She employs a dynamic approach to assessment with the use of the Learning Propensity Assessment Device and Dynamic Assessment of Young Children. Liz Price
Prior to going into private practice with PEN, Lois Prislovsky served as the Director of the Special Needs Program (SNP) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Prislovsky created and developed the SNP from its inception into a nationally respected program that comprehensively assisted student athletes with disabilities, allowing them to attain unprecedented academic and personal success. She served UTK’s student-athletes for over a decade beginning in 1994. Prislovsky has now organized dedicated colleagues and respected area professionals to create Psychoeducational Network, another comprehensive program designed to serve individuals with the highest standards of professionalism and personal attention. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tennessee, an M.S. in Psychology from the University of Memphis, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Dr. Prislovsky has completed over 138 hours of post-doctorate studies in assessment, cognitive psychology, Lindamood-Bell reading therapy, DIRFloortime methods for strength/relationship approaches to ASD treatment, and Ericksonian hypnosis. Prislovsky earned advanced certification in Ericksonian hypnosis and is dedicated to empowering individuals by helping them develop an understanding and appreciation of themselves and others and utilize their unique abilities to facilitate positive change. Mandy Sexton, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist who completed her education and professional training at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She has many clinical interests and talents and serves children and adults with a variety of psychoeducational issues. She is currently specializing in the treatment of Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Dr. Sexton is author of multiple journal articles on the subject of PTSD. She spent five years of her career at Baptist Hospital of East TN specializing in geriatrics and two years specializing in the treatment of adolescents. Dr. Sexton experienced much success working with clients with many mental health diagnoses including Autism. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Sexton instructs at Roane State Community College and Kaplan University Online. Mandy Sexton
is a licensed clinical social worker with over 20 years experience in mental/behavioral health. She has extensive experience working with children and adolescents both in outpatient and residential settings. Ms. West has expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of childhood and adolescents. Martha Winkler, M.A., Reading Specialist, tutor, graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with her M.A. in Science Education and a B.S. in Microbiology. She completed the Lindamood-Bell Reading program and specializes in reading comprehension, fluency, and phonetics development. She taught science and English at Halls Middle school for several years. She retired from Kroger management in 2008 where she was a store manager and education specialist. Ms. Winkler is dedicated to empowering students/clients by helping them to improve reading and study skills.
